Canna Flower Growers Reduce Gas Consumption Using Efficient Lighting and DryGair – Bloemen Planten Nieuws

Installing DryGair dehumidifiers, energy screens and switching to efficient lighting has saved canna growers, GreenDreamz, a third of their gas consumption.

The following are excerpts from a Dutch article published in Bloemen Planten Nieuws.

Saving Energy at GreenDreamz

GreenDreamz produces cannas and other various houseplants, in three plastic-covered compartments, for a total of 3 hectares. This winter, they’ve also set up a compartment with exclusively LED lighting, for the first time. They plan to install LED lamps in the other two compartments, next winter.

“We have reduced our gas use by a third compared to 2019, when we started growing Cannas. We also apply the lessons from The New Cultivation. To get rid of moisture, we sometimes pull a crack, but no longer 20% but a maximum of 4%. That turns out to be enough to get rid of moisture. In addition, we have an energy cloth and DryGair unit installed in the greenhouse.”

A New Way to Grow

Combining efficient lighting, energy screens, and DryGair, is an effective and efficient way to improve control over greenhouse conditions, while saving energy. This is a part of our ‘New Way to Grow’ philosophy.

By combining these three elements, you can completely close the greenhouse, reducing heat loss to the environment. LED lighting provides optimal radiation at an efficient rate, thermal screens retain the heat inside the space, and DryGair controls humidity, without requiring external air.

Using this method, growers such as GreenDreamz are able to reduce energy expenses by an average of 50%.
