DryGair Launches DG-12 50Hz: A Smarter Dehumidifier for High-Wire Vegetable Crops
The DryGair DG-12 50Hz is a commercial greenhouse dehumidifier engineered specifically for high-wire vegetable crops – including tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers – combining a narrower footprint, microchannel heat exchangers, and a smart controller system for season-long humidity management.
HortiDaily published an in-depth feature on the new unit, covering the engineering decisions behind it and the growing role of dehumidification in modern greenhouse operations. Read the full article on HortiDaily.
Built for Dense Crops
High-wire vegetable crops create unique challenges: dense canopies, complex infrastructure, and air pockets where humidity accumulates. The DG-12 50Hz was redesigned to work inside the crop environment rather than around it.
The unit is approximately 20 cm narrower than previous models – reducing interference with workers, plants, and light, and minimizing impact on crop rotation. New microchannel heat exchangers improve energy efficiency, while updated airflow geometry ensures humid air is continuously drawn from below the canopy and replaced with dry air from above.
Key specs:
- Water removal: 43 liters per hour (under designed greenhouse conditions)
- Airflow: 20,000 m³/h
- Efficiency: 4.5 liters per kWh
- Optional defrost coil for lower-temperature crops (lettuce, strawberries)
A Smarter Controller for a Changing Season
Growing conditions shift throughout the day and across the season. The DG-12 50Hz includes a new controller system that allows growers to adjust dehumidification and air circulation settings independently – by crop stage, time of day, or greenhouse conditions. Remote monitoring is available as an add-on.
“The setting growers use at the beginning of the season is not the same at the end of the season,” says Hadar Fuchs-Rubal, CSO at DryGair. “We know that, and we can adjust.”
Energy Savings and CO2 Retention
By reducing the need to ventilate for humidity control, growers keep heat inside the facility. Energy savings average around 50%, with some growers reporting up to 80% reduction per day depending on climate strategy and setup. Closed greenhouse operation also enables CO2 levels up to twice as high as in conventionally ventilated facilities.
For growers using renewable energy or solar panels, the DG-12 50Hz offers a practical tool to optimize the electrical side of operations.
The LED Factor
The shift to LED lighting has made dehumidification more critical. LEDs produce higher relative humidity and change how heat and air move through the greenhouse. The DG-12 50Hz is designed to integrate with LED-equipped facilities, supporting uniform climate conditions, efficient transpiration, and nutrient transport through the crop’s vascular system.
